• OVERVIEW

  Apidra Solarstar Pens are insulin pens pre-filled with Apidra that are disposable. Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a fast-acting type of insulin that is used during time for meals in order to treat high blood sugar levels in people who have diabetes.

• HOW IT WORKS?

  This medication is very similar in structure to the naturally occuring insulin found in humans. Insulin is produced by beta cells in the pancreas. It’s main objective in the body is to regulate blood sugar levels by promoting the absoption of sugar from the blood into the cells of the fat, liver, and skeletal muscle. It also blocks the production of sugar located in the liver and reduces the release of sugar back into the stream of blood. This allows the sugar to remain in the cells of your body to be used as a source of energy to carry out all basic functions of life.

• DOSAGE

  The dosage of this medicine will be different per each individual patient.

  
  

  Apidra is given by subcutaneous injection into the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. For best case use, injection sites should be changed from one location to the next to help reduce the risk of lipodystrophy.

  
  

  Keep in mind that Apidra is a fast acting insulin which means that it should be taken 15 minutes before the start of a meal or within a timeframe of 20 minutes after the meal start-time.

• STORING APIDRA

  The pen is comes pre-filled and is disposable after it is finished. Each pen contains multiple doses of insulin glulisine and you can set your doses from 1 to 80 units in steps of one unit. Once opened, your pen can be used for up to 28 days unrefrigerated.
