Pennsaid® is a prescription-only topical solution used to treat the pain of osteoarthritis, particularly in the knees. Containing the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac sodium, Pennsaid® directly targets pain at the source by reducing the inflammation that contributes to discomfort and stiffness.

Why Choose Pennsaid (Diclofenac Sodium)?

  • Targeted Relief: Applied directly to the knee, or the site of pain, providing more direct relief compared to oral medications.
  • Fast-Acting: Begins to relieve pain quickly and effectively, allowing for greater mobility and comfort.
  • Ease of Use: Comes with a dosing card to ensure accurate application.

How to Use Pennsaid (Diclofenac Sodium)?

  • Measure the Dose: Use the dosing card provided with the medication to accurately measure the correct amount of Pennsaid. The card is marked with specific measurements that correspond to the prescribed dose.
  • Apply the Solution: Squeeze the solution onto the dosing card up to the mark that corresponds with your prescribed dose. Then, apply the solution from the dosing card directly onto the skin covering the knee or affected area.
  • Spread Evenly: Use your fingers to evenly spread the solution over the front, back, and sides of the knee. Ensure that the solution covers all the areas around the knee where pain is experienced.
  • Allow to Dry: Let the solution dry completely before covering the area with any clothing or applying any other skin products over the treated area.
  • Avoid Water Contact: Avoid bathing, swimming, or showering for at least 30 minutes after applying Pennsaid to ensure that the medication has been absorbed properly into the skin.
  • Wash Hands: After applying the solution, wash your hands thoroughly, unless your hands are the area being treated for pain.

Important Safety Information about Pennsaid

  • Sun Exposure: Avoid exposing the treated area to sunlight or tanning beds as diclofenac can make your skin more sensitive to UV radiation.
  • Avoid Mixing Products: Do not apply other skin products such as lotions, moisturizers, or cosmetics on the same area where you’ve applied Pennsaid without asking your doctor.
  • Monitor for Side Effects: Be vigilant for any signs of skin reactions or worsening pain. If you experience adverse effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
